Ionosphere

The figure shows the ionospheric structure predicted by ASPEN for comparison with the Viking 1 Lander data. The model is in excellent agreement with the Viking data. Knowledge of the neutral gas distribution is a pre-requisite for understanding the ionospheric electron and ion distributions and the quality of the ionosphere predictions helps validate the thermospheric composition in the model.
